SPACE THAT ADAPTS, FURNITURE THAT FOLLOWS
Standing proudly above the Rhine River with panoramic views stretching to the Alps, Villa Rheinburg in Constance has always had an air of elegance and purpose. Originally a grand private residence, the villa has now been thoughtfully reimagined into a vibrant civic hub - a new home for cultural exchange, community engagement, and flexible public use.
After years of vacancy and uncertainty, the transformation of this historic building was entrusted to Bihler+Team Architekten und Stadtplaner, who orchestrated a sensitive yet modern revitalization. The result is a space that celebrates heritage while embracing the dynamic needs of contemporary users.
The redesigned Villa Rheinburg now hosts a diverse mix of community groups, associations, and public events. Flexibility was paramount - each room needed to transition effortlessly from workshop to seminar, concert to meeting, sometimes within the same day.
REVIVED LANDMARK FOR COMMUNITY AND CULTUR
To meet this demand for multifunctionality, the design team chose HOWE’s AS Series, specifically the AS100 chairs and AS400 concave tables. Known for their intelligent engineering, intuitive mobility, and clean, minimal aesthetic, these pieces were the ideal match for both the practical and visual aspirations of the project.
“THE CHALLENGE WAS TO RESTRUCTURE THE BUILDING INTO A MULTIFUNCTIONAL HOUSE FOR A WIDE RANGE OF USER GROUPS WITH VERY DIFFERENT REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROOMS AND THEIR USE.”
